Translation support tools that can be used for technical translation. What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Translation support tools have been in use for quite some time, but I think it may be difficult for those outside the translation industry to understand what these tools are for. At Albis, we also use translation support tools, starting with Trados Studio. (1) Overview Translation support tools are programs that automatically retrieve reusable past translations from a database of paired source texts and translations known as translation memory (TM). The translation is ultimately performed by humans, and this is entirely different from AI translation, where computers perform the translation. Trados Studio, developed and sold by RWS, is a representative translation support tool, but tools like Memsource are also becoming widely used. Not all translators use translation support tools. Additionally, since each project has its own suitability, it is important to understand the characteristics of each tool.
